Life Cycle
Unlike angels demons hold a different approach to death. They know it to be a key to perfection and accept it willingly when their time comes. When a demon has lived a lifetime in one body, to the point where they have learnt everything about it, its abilities, limitations and emotions, and when they have consumed enough essence (flesh and blood) from other demons or humans, they subject themselves to a ritual meant to dispose of the current body. In a ritualistic killing the body is cut open and the souls is allowed to rebirth in a higher and more developed species. If the demon subjecting themselves to the ritual hasn't learned enough about his previous shape, however, their soul is lost and goes back to the Void, waiting for another chance to reappear.
Demons don't have families and they don't have the notion of "childhood". Just like the angel souls are a set number, so are the demonic ones. Demons don't reproduce and even if a demon is small and weak its soul is still ancient, dating back to the beginning of time.
How the lost souls are allowed to rebirth is quite a peculiar process as it needs a host body - a human. As the human gets infected with a demonic virus they turn into a middle-stage between a human and a demon, the so-called vampires and werewolves. As the second, demonic soul, starts to mature in it's host a battle between the souls occurs in the host body. The possible outcomes are only two - either the human soul wins and inherits the demonic powers it was given, preserving its consciousness, or the demonic soul wins over. If the latter was to happen then the infected human would continue feeding on human flesh and blood and maturing until it's ready to surrender the human body and continue on its evolutionary path.
