First Report – Troubling Indicators:
Signed Vioca; Status, Seraph Angel.
Time Frame Reference: Eight years ago.
Message delivered via one of Vioca's feathers. Therein lied the following report:
Vioca saidFlying through clear blue skies, heading to a group of tamers to deliver orders, a strange feeling overtook me as I passed over a certain area of ground. Frowning, I decided to descend, spiraling down safely until I could easily furl my wings and investigate. What I found shocked me. A strange series of sigils in the middle of a forest clearing. The surrounding trees, I now noticed, all appeared burned jet black, but their leaves were instead a deep red. The ground was firm, but also seemed to carry some strange energy.
I've not seen anything like this before, but this reminds me of what my mentor used to tell stories about: the sites of demonic rifts. During the Great War these were apparently used en mass to allow demons to shift between realms with ease. Since then, most demons have forgotten how to use them, or the art has simply been lost as many elder demons died in that war, and good riddance to them. This...this however is worrying, because if memory serves me well, and it does, only very old demons remember how to open these gates.
And old hellions tend to be incredibly powerful. Let us hope this is merely a human experiment gone wrong.
Following this report, many more Rift sites were located. More show up as the years pass, but incidents do not always follow.
First Incident Report – The Riots:
Signed Esthelo; Status, Battle Angel.
Time Frame Reference: Eight years ago. One month following Vioca's report.
Message Delivered Personally by Esthelo to a Seraph official.
Esthelo said”Sir, I've been on patrol duty for two weeks already, this is ridiculous. There have been over twenty five riots since I begun patrol duty. They've burned down various outposts, murdered their own, and by extension many of our guardians have died in the last few weeks. I may not like guardians much, but they're kin. The hell is even going on! There has to be some explanation for this, humans don't just up and rebel like this...right?!”
The Riots lasted for three more weeks before people seemed to just simmer down, as if they had forgotten why they were rioting. The angels never figured out the cause for the riots as no particularly violent deaths by angel hands had occurred before their onset. There was not very much buildup for the event, and the rate at which it ceased also appeared sudden, as if something had simply stopped influencing their behavior. Many of the Rioters, after those five hellish weeks, reported bouts of memory loss. When others were asked in more recent years to recall the events of those five weeks, they remembered either none of it at all, or tiny fragments and emotions. The most disturbing recollection however, came from a young woman who could only remember being kidnapped several days before the riots. After that point, she said the only thing she could remember was pain.
Second Incident Report – The Shadow Murders:
Signed James Bran; Status, Human(A guardian angel's charge).
Time Frame Reference: Eight years ago. Two months following Esthelo's report and The Riot Incident.
Message Delivered Personally by James to a Seraph official after much delay:
said”Something is obviously going on. They may not be your kind, angel, but some...creature is murdering humans in very specific intervals. It appears to be morse code of some convoluted sort.”
Mr. Bran's plead for angelic intervention led to only more deaths. Eventually the deaths stopped completely, but only after exactly one hundred and twenty five murders had occurred. On some days there was one death, on others two, three, four, or even seven. However, even though there could be multiple deaths in a day, there were often days without deaths. Eventually, after many hours of figuring and decoding, Mr. Bran sent in this pattern of morse code to the angels, along with a letter detailing that it was the message that had been delivered through the long...long string of murders. A spree that had lasted all of eighty seven days.

When translated, the message reads as the following:
Message said”Fear the Night,
Know that your protector's efforts are fruitless,
The Angels will fall.”
There were no further murders and thus no messages to follow. The only conclusion that the council could come up with, was that a hellion of the Nightwalker class had somehow made its way onto Surface and that it was responsible for the murders. However, this was altered to more than one Nightwalker class hellion, as many of the murders took place almost simultaneously in different locations, suggesting more than one of the blasted demons!

After The Second Incident, nothing of notable value happens for all of three years.

Third Incident Report – The Vanishing Feathers:
No specific individual.
Time Frame Reference: Five years ago.
Messages were not delivered by a specific individual:
During a space of three months, over twenty four angels vanished and reappeared mysteriously. Some angels were gone for nearly a week, some only a single day. However, what linked the cases were that none of the angel's could remember what had happened to them, and their feathers held no memories of the occurrence, as if it had never happened at all. Several of the angels did not reappear for weeks on end. However, upon their reappearance, the angels were either insane, or horribly traumatized. It appeared that these particular angels were, in some fashion, forced to remove more than twenty feathers, or forced to attempt past life recall without the proper support or time. The only conclusive statement that the council could make was that it had been caused by demons. The council never figured out who was the one behind it, though they did apprehend, and kill, several surface demons who claimed some form of responsibility. Oddly, none of their deaths made any difference. After the end of the third month, the incidents simply stopped. Only three angels never reappeared, two battle angels and a weather angel. They were presumed dead.
Fourth Incident Report – The Dark Brands:
Signed Availus; Status, Seraph Angel.
Time Frame Reference: Five years ago. Three months after The Vanishing Feathers Incident.
Message Delivered Personally by way of Feather:
saidI had been hunting a specific group of Surface Demons, nasty bastards, led by several lower class hellions, probably from the western region of hell. I'd counted at least two Nightwalkers among the ranks of the leaders. I had been assigned this task along with two tamers and a rather renowned battle angel. As we flew, stealthily of course, we made sure not to let the group out of our range of feeling. The battle angel's senses were sharp you see, so we had more than our eyes to track them with.
After several minutes, we were in the optimum position so I commanded Kealn, the battle angel, to send the group into disarray. I would allow no cooperation among their ranks, after all, our numbers were less than theirs, though our strength was surely greater! They were merely lowly demons anyways!
So Kealn swooped down upon them, using his odd choice of weapon –a set bow an arrow with enchanted arrows made to explode on contact, but never to destroy themselves-- to split the group in three ways. The manuever was successful, so I landed and began to deal with one of three groupings while the two tamers unleashed their pets on the bastards.
One moment we were doing well, and the next moment I remember only darkness. I remember hearing the screams of my kin being cut off suddenly, and I remember being unable to move.
When I awoke, the demons were gone, and I was unharmed, as were the others. We returned to headquarters in Loom, ashamed and confused. I sent the others off, except for Kealn. I spoke with him briefly, and then he departed.
- - - - -
The next day, I was told by an acquaintance that there was a strange mark that appeared to be burned onto the back of my neck. I thought it merely a scar or something left behind by the demons who had escaped. However, the very next day I found that it had spread and had extended across my back.
Several days passed and it only got worse. Eventually, I could not maintain focus on my duties for I was so maddened by the markings that crisscrossed my entire body except my face and my wings. I hoped neither would be touched, but of course I was not so lucky.
The markings began to sully my wings and spread over my face, even into my eyes, depriving me of sight. I could feel the accursed things pulsating on my flesh...in my bone.
I was sent into quarantine and I remember little after the markings covered my wings. Only flashes and snippets of phrases, various shocks of magic and the like. I remember hearing that those who had come along to hunt the pack also had these...these dark brands. I felt a prisoner in my own body. Partially conscious, but never aware and never in control. I am still as such, but now I am sealed in onyx...for the safety of others.
Thirty Two documented cases of these dark brands were located and taken care of. However, not all angels effected by the brands fell into the unconscious state. Some went raving mad and attempted to harm those around them. Others seemed to mutate, their bodies twisting into horribly disfigured masses of flesh. For some the markings simply ceased to spread. The luckiest of the victims found that their brands receded and eventually became inactive, though they retain the mark even today.
What the brands are is unclear, but it is apparent that they originate from the western region of hell. This was determined by a wandering human mage knowledgeable in the art of Athriohm who identified the chaotic power within the marks. This power originates from the western region of hell and can only be effectively used by demons from that area, primarily(there are exceptions). The brands did appear to be magically contagious unless they receded or became inactive, the reason for such is unknown.
Fifth Incident Report – Uniting the Underground:
Signed Vioca; Status, Seraph Anel.
Time Frame Reference: Five years ago. Six months after The Dark Brand Incident.
Message Delivered Personally by Vioca:
saidStrange activity in the underground of Loom has been occurring of late. While murder, rape, and demonic infestation were fairly normal, there appear to be some form of conflict transpiring. It is as if several lesser known gangs have begun to eliminate or assimilate the others. Marks akin to the Dark Brands of just six months ago have been made as graffiti on many structures. It seems to be the sigil of these rising gangs, though there are slight differences in each one, four of five individual versions to be specific.
This conflict in the underground lasted for three years, dying down and flaring up off and on over that time. The angels wrote it off for the most part.

After The Fifth Incident, nothing of notable value happens for all of three years.

Sixth Incident Report – Knowledge Lost:
Signed Mark Gaines; Status, Human scholar.
Time Frame Reference: Three years ago.
Message Delivered Personally by Mark Gaines' guardian angel Fiormen lasa:
saidOver the last couple of months there has been a bizarre series of occurrences all centered around the Loom Memorial Library. Due to the library's dire financial straits of recent, an anonymous individual appears to have offered some form of contract to assist them in their dilemma. I have been unable to ascertain any information about this individual. While there have been others who have sought to help, they have all died or given up due to various circumstances. Some have died, others gone mad, or fallen ill. Only one of them appears to have survived, but all of them reported strange...sounds and other phenomena within the walls of the library some time before their death.
Much fear has been caused by these strange events and the library is seldom visited now. Of course, as of tomorrow, it appears that the library will never open again; something about the fine print of the agreement that the library's administration has signed with the two remaining benefactors, one being the anonymous individual, and the other being a woman by the name of Lily Qarin. While I am not sure of how, I am certain that this somehow relates to the previous incidents. If you do not recall what I refer to, I mean the incidents that appear to occur every three years.
I may be a mere human in your eyes, but I implore that you do further research on the possibility that the past five incidents are all connected. I'd advise that you contact me, but I must disappear, I don't think I'm safe anymore. I know too much....
Good luck.
Seventh Incident Report – The Prophecy:
Foretold by Caeriana; Status, Dark winged Angel Clairvoyant; Missing.
Time Frame Reference: Three years ago:
Caeriana said”Eyes of glowing red, tears do fall,
The lord of end and beginning tall
Listen now as hell's gate splits,
Melody's sorrow, Chaos blitz,
A lord long lost, a being of strife and sorrow,
Has struggled for its long, short, life,
Now they come, now one once more,
Clamorous crazy catastrophe wrought,
End of time, beginning thought,
Sorted wrath, never begot,
So here blood seeps,
Falling bounda-rees,
The walls won't hold,
The walls so old,
Shrivel to dust
Creation's preface,
Long a broken husk,
Now...resurface.”
As she exited her trance, the angel clairvoyant, Caeriana, entered a catatonic state and her wings gradually shifted to the color of pitch. She never recovered and vanished three years later. All attempts to locate her have been unsuccessful and the reason for her disappearance is a complete mystery.

After The Seventh Incident, nothing of notable value happens for all of three years.
In terms of the strange demonic being known as 'Szayeis', the council has decided that it is a demon upstart of some sort, considerably powerful and certainly a notable threat. However, the council is unsure of his rank in the demonic hierarchy, though they think it to be somewhere between Warden status and the status of a Lord. Most of the above incidents appear to have been caused by the same being, the one aforementioned in this summary, but we are still unsure as there are only some indicators. We know that this being, if it is indeed the primary one responsible, is at least old enough to have participated in The Great War as it must have been to know how to open Demonic Rifts. Additionally, its abilities seem reminiscent of Nightwalkers so it is likely from the Western Region of hell, but this could be incorrect. It is plainly incredibly intelligent, we must shamefully admit, as it has avoided all attempts on its life and to discover its true nature. The likelihood that it is a lord or a being near that level is very strong as the first incident report indicates that it may possess the infamousEyes of Praestigia a trademark of every Western lord since the beginning of our our historical records...or rather, those we still hold.
While we cannot be certain to Szayeis' exact level of power, political influence, or even race, it is certain that the demon is a threat. If a demon with the eyes of Praestigia is sighted, do not engage, flee and report to the council immediately! This being is to be treated with extreme caution.
